Two Town Board Members Resign... update
I just talked to Betty Pitman, town supervisor. She hasn’t received an official resignation from Tom Fox yet but I guess that’s just a formality. We also talked about how unusual this is. She couldn’t think of another occasion when two town board members resigned in the same year. Linette Currie resigned last month and it was announced at last months meeting. Betty says they have a candidate for that position and that will be voted on at this Monday nights meeting. No word on a replacement for Tom. Both Linette and Tom were first time town board members and showed great promise for the town. Tom was very interested in the water protection committee and was a member. I’m sure the board will find suitable replacements to serve out the rest of the year. Because both Linette and Tom were in the first half of a four-year term their replacements can only serve until the end of the year. All four-town board positions will be on the ballot. Two of them for their regular four year term and two to serve out the remaining two year terms. This is very unusual; the entire town is up for election.
If you ever wanted to serve on the town board, be it supervisor, town board member, clerk, justice, highway supervisor etc. This is the year! Everybody is up for it this time.
I’ve heard rumors that some people are reluctant to serve because they didn’t want to appear on this web site. If you look at the last year of this web site you will see that there is no reason to fear being here. The only people who appeared on this site were those who used their position of power to enrich themselves or hurt others. Those, like Linette and Tom never appeared on the site because they never did anything wrong. They did their job in service to others and they should be commended for it. In addition you will recall I gave high marks to Betty Pitman for doing a good job, why? Because she did a good job. There are those who used their position improperly and they have and will continue to appear here when ever I see them doing wrong.
Now is the time to start thinking of serving your town to make it a better place for everyone. I’ll have more details about how you can do that as time goes by.
