Kerry says terrorists a NUISANCE???
This quote is being used by Bush in a new ad that I'm sure you will see a lot. It comes from a very pro Kerry article in, where else, The New York Times by Matt Bai. It's a long article and this quote is about 2/3 of the way down.
When I asked Kerry what it would take for Americans to feel safe again, he displayed a much less apocalyptic worldview. ''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' Kerry said. ~
Kerry, a former prosecutor, was suggesting that the war, if one could call it that, was, if not winnable, then at least controllable.
Not only is this a defeatist attitude it shows a remarkable difference between the two. One who wants to defeat the terrorists and one who thinks them a nuisance and wants to controll them. This will hurt Kerry. I'm sure his advisors are saying to themselves,
"What the hell, is he trying to lose this race."
The New York Times > Magazine > Kerry's Undeclared War
Story on Yahoo News that Drudge referenced is here.
Bush's re-election campaign announced a new television ad that plays off of Kerry's interview comment. "Terrorism ... a nuisance? How can Kerry protect us when he doesn't understand the threat?" the ad says. The campaign said the ad would run on national cable television networks and the campaign's Web site.
Jeesh, First a global test and now terrorists are only a nuisance. Man! Maybe he does want to lose this.
