Comments on the 2001 Preble election results
(preliminary)
This is the preliminary information taken
from the Board
Of Elections web site. This info was available by 10 PM
on election night so you may want to bookmark that site for
future elections. The election will be certified 11 days after
11/6/01 or by 11/17/01 or so. I don't expect the absentee ballots
will make any difference to the outcome in Preble. As you can
see the voter turnout was low, as I predicted. The BOE told
me that there were a total of 404 voters (900+ registered voters)
so you can see that a large number, about 100, did not vote
in all categories. Jeff Griswold(R) had the most at 338, Jane
Davenport (D) was next with 329, then Tom Fox(R) with 326, Linette
Currie(D) with 320 and last was Betty Ann Pitman(D) with 309.
John Steger(R) received the least Preble votes with 239. It
is interesting to look at the breakdown to see what Democrats
and Republicans got in their respective parties. For example:
Jane Davenport, a democrat got the most republican votes and
the least democrat votes!
These numbers are very close to two years
ago. It seems there are about 200 people who vote Republican
and 100 who vote Democrat, automatically each time. Two years
ago the voter turnout was much higher at 600 or so, (I'll have
to look that up) because of the effort for the write in vote.
But back then the numbers for the town positions were about
the same. I'll have to do a little digging and post that information
later.
Laurence D. Beaudry did much better than
expected and might have won if the Preble democrats had supported
him. The only thing he did was send out a postcard and a letter,
no phone calls, no door to door. I'm not surprised he lost,
I'm surprised he did so well with no effort. He did win Scott
by 2 so at least his home town supported him.
