Song Mountain drills well, plans to remove 200 MILLION GALLONS of WATER from Song Lake! And they did this against the towns zoning laws, the river valley rules, the DEC, and without any approval from the planning board. Afraid of being stopped by the town they worked night and day, Saturday, Sunday and even Christmas Eve to put in the illegal well and pipes before they could be stopped. Despite reports on TV3 and the Sunday paper (12/27/98 pg B1) Songs management continues to violate the law.

Their claim of a "cup of water out of the ocean" is ridiculous. It would take a cup as tall as a 43 story building and 1 and 1/3 football fields wide to hold the amount of water they can remove from Song lake. That's some cup! They also claim to only need this water if their other source fails. For decades that 'other' source was just fine so why do they need more water now? They bought more snow guns and they have added a new snow park. They will need more snow. Why do they claim they aren't going to make more snow than in the past?? They have said too many things that have turned out not to be true. We can only question what they tell us now. WHAT WE'VE DONE SO FAR.

We have been in contact with the Preble officials that should oversee a project like this. The code enforcement official and the town lawyers have refused to enforce the zoning laws. These laws are crystal clear in forbidding a commercial use of a residential area. The law is clear! The reason our elected officials refuse to enforce them is not!

The next step is for their refusal to stop this illegal well to be reviewed by the Preble Zoning Board of Appeals at their meeting on Wednesday, December 30th. We have a strong zoning law that should protect our homes and our lake. But the law is only as good as the enforcement. CALL TO ACTION!

If you care about the lake, If you want to save it for your children and your childrens children. If you want to save it for the girl scouts. If you just think that Song lake is more important as a lake rather than profit for the Rochester Rich then WE NEED YOUR HELP! HOW YOU CAN HELP
