This is Not Safe For Democrats

Friday, November 28, 2003
Welcome to anncoulter.com!

"The common wisdom holds that 'both parties' have to appeal to the extremes during the primary and then move to the center for the general election. To the contrary, both parties run for office as conservatives. Once they have fooled the voters and are safely in office, Republicans sometimes double-cross the voters. Democrats always do."

HOW IT ALL WENT DOWN: DETAILED REPORT OF BUSH'S SECRET TRIP (DRUDGE)

I just read this background piece on Drudge about W's trip to Iraq for Thanksgiving with the troops. Fascinating stuff. Then I read the libs response, or as much of it as I could stand, on MSNBC. Typically they downplay the trip and look for negatives, as you would expect. Trouble is nobody is listening to them. The image will remain of W serving turkey to the troops and the libs squeals in the dark will only play to their base, who all hate W anyway. I believe most people will look at these images of W with the troops and try to imagine any of the dems in that position including Hillary. W wins hands down and I'm predicting a major win for the reps nationwide next year. Unless the dems get their act together in the meantime and I see no sign of that. In a couple of months they will have picked their candidate and will all line up behind whoever that is. Then it will be interesting to watch how they do. They may surprise me and put up a good fight but I won't hold my breath waiting.

BBC NEWS | UK | Politics | Thousands join anti-Bush protest

Yesterday the media claimed 200,000, then it was 150,000 but this story says, "although police put the figure closer to 30,000." Believing the media is akin to believing the weatherman..

Beware of pretty girls bearing signs

Memories of protests past

The picture reminds me of a time, long ago, when I was a teenager trying to pick up girls on the SU campus. I was about 16 as I recall, when this very pretty girl asked me if I wanted to go with her to protest, something. Smitten by her looks and with hormones raging I said, "Sure". Down we all went to Clinton Square in downtown Syracuse. I was handed a sign that said, something and I protested something for an hour or so. I never saw the girl after that but ever since then whenever I see a protest march I wonder how many of the guys there know what the protest is all about and how many are just trying to get laid.

The Democrats' dilemma | csmonitor.com

"In the wider Democratic universe, however, the prospect of a Dean nomination has sent some party members into paroxysms of private hand-wringing. Not only do they see him losing badly to Bush, they also see Dean hurting Democratic candidates further down on the ticket - rippling into congressional races, and possibly even boosting Republican control of the 100-seat Senate close to the crucial threshold of 60 seats, which would make it filibuster-proof."

Go Dean Go!

NEW STUFF

I just added an RSS newsfeed. The link is on the left. What is this? Put simply, if you read the news from a large number of sites that offer RSS then you can use one program to grab all the headlines automatically from all the sites without going to the sites themselves. On my Mac, using OSX, I downloaded the free NetNewsWire Lite (below) and "subscribed" to my site. I did that by first "right clicking" on the link to the left and "copied the link". I then ran NetNewsWire and clicked on the "subscribe" button and pasted in the link (URL) of my site. That's it. It went to my site and got the most recent 15 entries and showed me the headlines. I can then click on the one I'm interested in and it will show me the text. It's really quite cool.

Special pieces of software called News Aggregators can read RSS feeds, examples are FeedDemon (Windows), NewsMonster and amphetaDesk (cross-platform), and NetNewsWire (for the Lite and free version scroll down to the bottom of their page.) and Shrook (Mac OS X).

What is RSS?

Rich Site Summary (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for a site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more).

Help Get Schumer OUT of the Senate!
Michael Benjamin (R-NY)
Republican for U.S. Senate

P.S. Remember, this U.S. Senate seat was held by a Republican for 18 of the last 24 years. It is a totally winnable seat!

GLOOM AND DOOM

Now I know why the libs are so gloomy all the time. Quite by accident I was listening to NPR at noon today (11/12/03) to a program called Fresh Air. First up was a journalist talking about the gloomy prospect of N. Korea's nuclear situation. Then expecting some balance (foolish me) the next up was another journalist talking doom about Iraq and other stuff. This was followed by a female singer. There was no balance, no response to the gloom and doom. It is no wonder the libs are always down on the US. They listen to this kind of crap on NPR all the time. Now if they got some balance and listened to Rush... Never, and I mean that would never happen.

Soros's Deep Pockets vs. Bush (washingtonpost.com)

This is the face of hate.

The Democrats Plan for Retaking the White House?

In listening to the dems for the last week or so I think I have their outline for 2004.

I think the dems have concluded the following:

  • That the war on terrorism will be largely over by the time of the 2004 election. Over enough for their purposes at least.

  • That Al Qaeda has been greatly diminished and is more a threat to the Middle East than anywhere else.

  • That they feel that the chance of another attack on American soil is very sleight because of the efforts of President Bush.

  • That they think that Iraq will be a mess, not like Viet Nam, but enough of a mess that they can claim it IS like Viet Nam. Only those old enough to know better will know it isn't true.

  • That they can claim that the Patriot Act takes away liberty, and while that in itself doesn't bother them they will claim it against Bush

And the more obvious ones:
  • However good the economy is or isn't, they will find fault and blame it on Bush.

  • However many jobs are created they will morn the unemployed, no matter how many or few.

In other words, the same old same old.

At some point in time the dems may realize that their tactics, the tactics of Clinton, are a failure. At some point they will look at how far down they have gone since 1992 and Clinton. At some point they will drop the Clintons and take back their once noble, now soiled party. Perhaps it will take the inevitable huge loses they will incur in 2004 to make them realize this. You can't bounce back until you've hit bottom. And at the rate there are going, the bottom isn't far.

Nobody came to the aid of the lawyer, don't you find that 'interesting'?
