I just can't understand it. These nitrates must be coming from somewhere, but I just can't figure out where. They are high by the trailer park south of Preble so I went down there and looked around. There was snow on the ground and the manure that was dumped on the fields all around the trailer park was clearly visible. And manure is a source of nitrates, but just because manure is dumped all around the area and on snow, which I am told is a no no, that just because of this manure all over the place, one would be foolish to jump to the conclusion that manure could be the source of nitrates. Lets look around some more, perhaps it's the septic tanks of the trailer park, but no, the county ruled that out. Let's look around some more, around and around and all you see are manure covered fields. Hmm, must be something else. Has anyone checked to see if low flying planes dropped nitrates on the ground? Perhaps it was vandals who snuck in at night and poured nitrates down each and every well, has anyone checked that? Wow, the stink of manure is pretty strong here. Has anyone checked to see if the yellow and white paint used on the road may be the cause of the high nitrates? Hmm, perhaps some nitrate laden truck spilling something on the road, on a regular basis, for years, caused the high nitrates. Wow, when the wind blows the right way that manure really stinks. Maybe it was the highway crew that installed those signs, maybe they used nitrates to secure the posts. I'm going to have to move, that manure stench is making my eyes water. What oh what could be causing these high nitrates? Maybe it's the wooden fence posts used 100 years ago and are now just a memory in the fields, maybe they are the cause of the nitrates. Oops, careful, don't step off the road, the manure is pretty deep here. Maybe it's those cars that drive by all the time, maybe they emit some nitrates and that somehow gets into the ground water. Boy this is a tough one, I just can't figure it out, but I'll have to leave it be for now because that liquid manure stink is just too strong to stay here and try to figure it out. Good thing the county is looking into this, for several years now, and they are narrowing it down. Little by little they narrow it down and someday, perhaps in our lifetime, they may, just may be able to figure it out. Wow, that manure stink has even gotten into my car. Let's all pray that the county tracks this down, it sure is a mystery.
